Our New Home
Grace Full was settled into her slip at Maryland Yacht Club by the first week in May and we were anxious to move aboard and start our new life on the water. Our home hadn't sold by the middle of June, but we were ready to make the big move anyway. We had disposed of most of our "stuff" during the previous year and the furniture we had lived with for almost 30 years, so we packed up a truck and became "liveaboards". Our new life was all that we dreamed of and we thoroughly enjoyed our new neighbors at the "club". They were all very friendly and it was a wonderful way to live. Our commutes were a little long, but that was definitely not a deterrent. Our home sold in September and we were now "homeless", as Flint had fun telling all our friends. We began using space heaters to take the chill out of our living space as we entered the winter season, since we didn't have a winter heating system. By December our heat exchange system wasn't effective anymore and our space heaters were barely taking the edge off and were costing us an arm and a leg in electricity bills. We were blessed to be able to begin the process of house-sitting for many friends throughout the winter. We felt like vagabonds, moving from home to home, but it was fun experiencing new neighborhoods. It is now the end of March and our boat is in the boatyard getting some work done to prepare for our "loop" trip in June. We should be able to bring her home to the club this week and move back aboard. We can't wait!
