The Jersey Coast

Our friends at Maryland Yacht Club took our picture at we left so we wanted to share that picture moment with you. After anchoring in Cape May we decided to go to Atlantic City on Saturday and we had an anchorage overlooking one of the top gambling capitols of the country. We were far enough away that we didn't hear a lot of noise, but were amazed at all the multicolored lights on the buildings. We anchored with two other loopers, one from the previous night and another from Texas whom we just met. We decided to put our dinghy in and go over and introduce ourselves to the Texans so Flint got in and started the motor. We had not practiced this "dinghy drill" yet so, when he told me to get in, I just jumped on the seat of the dinghy from the swim platform and was promptly catapulted over the side. The Texas lady was standing on her boat clapping when I came to the surface. I lost my sunglasses and scared my husband to death! I was able to pull myself into the dinghy and we proceeded to go visiting. She said that I did a perfect flip and it was awsome to watch.
The next day we decided to do another short day and went out to the Atlantic to travel to Manasquan, NJ. We have an autopilot that is great to use when we make long passages because we can set our course and we don't have to touch the wheel again until we reach our destination. Flint couldn't seem to get it to work during this passage. He tried again and again to make it connect and even dug out the book to see if he was missing something in the operation of it. He finally said that he would go and turn it off and back on again to see if that would help. He came back to the pilothouse and said, "Well that is fixed". I asked what the problem was and he said that he had never turned it on when we started. For all of you who know us well, that was definitely a "Leslie Moment" extraordinaire!
Our next leg of the trip took us to a wonderful yacht club on Staten Island called Great Kills Yacht Club. One of their members did the loop a couple of years ago and suggested that his club offer docking to other loopers for a nominal fee as they pass through this area. It has great transportation to New York City and has all the amenities we need for a comfortable stay. We are going in to New York tomorrow to see some sights and visit a business associate on Manhatten. We will be staying here with four other loopers until Thursday. We will then make the trip through New York City by boat and on up the Hudson River. We will try to get a picture of the Statue of Liberty to share with you on our next posting. We are having a great time and wish you could all share this experience up close and personal, but we will try to give you the best view of it we can.

Flint & Leslie, I laughed when I read about the dinghy and had a visual of Leslie flying through the air! Glad it wasn't a "bad" experience. We will be praying for you. There is nothing like being on the water.

In Him!

Leslie, when I said that you will be cool in the Atlantic while we are baking in our 95+ weather, I guess you took my advice and took a dip! I bet you that water felt goood! Neat that you are enjoying seeing things from a different perspective that most don't get to see. Still waiting on my fish story. Enjoy NYC.

It all sounds like fun, even the flip. Thanks for re-sending the link. My copy must have gotten corrupted somehow.
